We bring you our second team member profile. Owen Campbell, Tax Assistant at the Aberdeen office, shares his working life at Acumen and what makes him tick.

  • Tell us about your average day: I wake up, head to work and work hard for the day. When I get home I watch Netflix and/or band practice then a trip to the local.

 

  • What’s on your desk right now? Water and chocolate

 

  • What’s your favourite aspect of working life at Acumen? You feel that people actually care about you.

 

  • All time favourite film and why? Hook. Dustin Hoffman is amazing in that film! Also Rufio...

 

  • Tell us something we might not know about you: I’m in the process of recording an EP with my band.

 

  • First car vs. current car? First car - there is something about a Toyota Starlet written off by a flimsy metal shed in gale force winds that appeals to me.

 

  • How did you get into your role / career journey? By asking my employers over the years if I can do more, they very kindly obliged!

 

  • Advice for others looking to get into a similar role? Try to the best of your ability, it is all you can really do.

 

  • What is your favourite song / karaoke go to? Favourite song is too hard to pick! Karaoke? Any song on Meatloaf’s ‘Bat out of Hell’ album.

 

  • Dispel a myth about accountancy: We do not work for HMRC.

  • Highlight of working at Acumen? Everyone getting along, we have a great group of people in the office.

 

  • What’s your favourite activity / when are you the happiest? Playing guitar or enjoying the peace and quiet!

 

  • If you could learn to do anything what would it be? Music production, I’m a novice as it is.

 

  • If you had a super power what would it be? The ability to transport myself to anywhere in the world. It would make holidays that much easier!

 

  • Accounting advice for non-accountants? The friend down the pub might not have the solution to your problems.

 

  • What’s your biggest pet peeve? Know-It-alls
